Arkassa Village – Karpathos Island
Arkasa, an impressive village is on the west coast with sunset view, opposite of Kasos Island has much picturesque scenery with natural beauty. It offers many different options for Greek food in the main square, super market, ATM machine & famous Stema Bar. There is fuel station in the entrance of the village & pharmacy on the way to Finiki.
Walking through the paths in the village the visitor can admire the picturesque traditional houses of Arkasa and exceptional Ypapanti Church in the center. Under the church on the main pedestrian path of the village visitor can enjoy the astonishing sunset drinking special drinks & cocktails in the balcony of famous Stema Bar or eating traditional Greek food in the taverns.
Between the village and Kasos towers a rock out to the sea, Paleokastro hill. On Paleokastro hill there are ruins of the ancient city of Arkesia. There is hiking path on the hill leading on the top, offering full ocean view. On the feet of Paleokastro two excellent places lie, Agios Nikolaos beach on the left and Agia Sofia church on the right. Agios Nikolaos, the beautiful sandy beach, with umbrellas, sunbeds, shower, bar & restaurant. Agia Sofia is a byzantine church, which had three basilicas, built one on the other and separated by mosaic floors. The place is amazing and the view from Paleokastro is fantastic!
Afiartis area with airport & famous beaches as well as secluded beaches of Araki are close to Arkasa, 10 minutes with car.
The airport is located in Afiartis, 8 km from us with car. Afiartis is famous for windsurfing and beautiful beaches.
Main town Pigadia is in 15 km distance from us with car. Harbour, civil offices, health center are located in Pigadia. Harbour is the starting point for daily boat excursions to beaches or to Olympos – Diafani.
Finiki is located in 3 norths, in a protected from rocks bay. In quiet fischerman’s village Finiki there is a small harbor with the fishing boats from locals and excellent fish tavernas.
Menetes: beautiful medieval age village with narrow crooked streets. The St. mary Church is located on a rock 80 metres above the ground, with a full view to Pigadia!
Aperi: Stately houses with - local unusual - red tiled roofs, luxury gardens, surrounded with mountains. Aperi is the residence of the bishop of Karpathos and Kassos and is intended as the island´s richest village!
Volada: Pretty houses decorated with flowers meander along the small river up the valley. Around the village are many luxury gardens with fruit trees, and in the center ist a mighty palm tree.
Olympos – Diafani – Saria: Olympos, the traditional village of Karpathos is on the north. Traditional houses and tavernas, narrow streets with souvenir shops and the women with the local clothes are the back ground in Olympos. The impressive Church of St. Mary is in the center, with decorations made by a local artist. Diafani is a small harbor with tavernas, organized beach and pensions, accessible from the main street through Olympos. Saria, the small island north of Olympos has a wild beauty and is environmentally protected, as some species of animals and plants live there. Saria is accessible by boat, has two wild beaches and ruins of ancient city of Palatia on the hill with a breathtaking view of the beach.
